Papers of Denis Kevans, 1965-2000. 1965, 1999-2000.

The papers include 'Fifty years Anzac', a roneoed leaflet produced by Kevans for the fiftieth anniversary of Anzac day, containing seven of Kevans' poems. The poems are 'The unknown soldiers', 'The enemy', 'Bombs', 'Gifts', 'Gallipoli', 'Lonely sentinel' and 'The swasticklers'. The bulk of the papers related to 'Never forget you', a poem about soldiers in East Timor. Included are copies of the poem, music by Tom Bridges for the poem, various publications containing the poem, papers such as flyers and correspondence related to readings, for example, at East Timor benefits and on the ABC's 'Australia all over', and the publication of Kevans' poems. There are also copies of Kevans letters to the editor and other papers about Australia's role in East Timor. Also included is East Timor: making amends? Analysing Australia's role in reconstructing East Timor, edited by Lansell Taudevin and Jefferson Lee (2000).

Poet and singer songwriter, Kevans has given performances at Australian folk festivals for many years. He is known as Australia's Poet Lorikeet for his poems celebrating working class culture and the need to preserve the environment. Kevans had seven of his poems printed privately for the fiftieth anniversary of Anzac Day in 1965 as part of his fight against war.
